| Episode - The Fife Diet - part 1 | Hugh 2008-12-17 12:16:00 UTC |
Yes, it’s nearly the end of Kamikaze Cookery Season 1, and that means two-part special time! In April this year, we decided to test out the so-called Fife Diet, which was inspired by the Canadian 100-Mile Diet. Its creator claims that not only can you live on 100% Fife produce, but that you’ll eat better food doing so, and save the planet by reducing carbon emissions. We decided to find out if that was true, by trying to eat 100% Fife produce for a week. In Part 1, we trek to the wilds of Fife and attempt to buy enough local food to last the week. Given that it’s farming country, how hard … could it be? Part 2 will be going up on Monday next week, not Wednesday as usual, as a) we figured that you’d want to wait less time for the thrilling conclusion and b) Wednesday’s Christmas Eve! Also – watch out later, as we serialise our journals of the week on the Fife Diet – coming every day this week. | |
| Steelbonnet | 2008-12-17 13:18:22 UTC Mentioned on national radio only this week. How can someone live on a diet where they have to resort to trifle instead of Crimbo Pud?! http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/youandyours/items/05/2008_51_mon.shtml | |
| Dougal Stanton | 2008-12-17 14:01:09 UTC I’m a wee bit baffled. You went all the way to Fife for Fife food and didn’t get any fish?! Despite it being the one thing that Fife is known for? Also, you’re talking about Fife but you seem to be describing Paisley or Glasgow. | |
| pajh | 2008-12-17 14:21:21 UTC @Dougal: Good point about fish. We didn’t have time to make a special trip out to Pittenweem, so we were banking on the fish people being at the Farmer’s Market. Typically, they weren’t there that week. Nor were the buffalo people. | |
| Hugh | 2008-12-17 16:07:23 UTC @Steelbonnet – we’ll be contacting the relevant journos. I agree, it’s barbaric. |
