I always hated steamed buns when I lived in Hong Kong. Ironically, since moving away I have made my peace with them, and now rather enjoy a char siu bao.

That said, I imagine that the type of dough has as much to do with the taste as the cooking method. I am intruiged at what a steamed brioche might taste like.

@Pajh – nah, bagels are boiled rather than steamed. Hmm. Steamed bagel…

Also I believe the dough is a very different formulation.

@Spud – I’m a bit of a fan of Chinese-style buns, but I suspect their being a luxury rather than a staple has something to do with that…

I may try making a steamed brioche today and report back. Otherwise, it’ll be the week after next, because I’m away all next week.
