Two crucial bits of advice, then I swear I’ll stop spamming your site.

1) re: “Follow Us”
You desperately need to have a branded link to your Facebook group ON the front page of the site, possibly next to your big, rotated RSS feed symbol. While an RSS symbol may ring bells with your geek BoingBoing/Slashdot audience, as soon as you get a wee bit more viral, “normal” people will respond better to a Facebook logo. Once you have generated a bit more $$$ you might want to invest in some targeted FB advertising as well, but for the love of heaven, use a picture of a blowtorch and an alarmed cow or some such, but don’t use your logo because, well… it (ahem) needs work.

2) re: Making money
Clearly you have a store, and you are generating revenue from Google advertisements (that tell me I’m fat and dowdy and need to lose weight; a delightful message that leaves me feeling warm and fuzzy every time I watch KK). However! This means that if people don’t watch all the way to the end and then click through to Google’s offensive diet pill ads, you’re not making much $, AND if a click-through by some miracle becomes a purchase, you see none of the profits.

Why not sign up as an Amazon affiliate instead [https://affiliate-program.amazon.co.uk/], then add affiliate links in your shop, right nav and blog posts to kitchen gadgets and cookbooks that YOU specifically endorse? You could add value by defending your choice of tools with write-ups and explanations. That way, you make as much as 10% if I buy Hugh’s fancy-pants digital kitchen scale and self-lighting blowtorch, or a bottle of the type of wine Morag used as a makeshift rolling pin, or your particular brand of industrial-sized kitchen bin liners to use when operating my shitty 400W hand blender.

Just a thought – hate to see dot com entrepreneurs missing out on any way to earn larger audience exposure and extra pennies. And yes, I am part Scottish.

Thanks – those are all very helpful tips! We’ll consider the affiliate idea, too.

(The plan is to make most of our money off DVD sales – we’ll see how that goes!)

I’m curious: why no iTunes option for subscription?

I’m really lazy and want to make iTunes get all my internet-based periodic video for me. Otherwise I won’t remember to check back until I wonder if you all died doing the Fife diet.
